Job Title: OPEN ACCESS™ Service Technician

Job Description

You will work as part of a team to deliver and maintain a reliable, fault tolerant and robust computing environment, including end to end secure network transmission channels. Working with other team members you will devise solid solutions for delivering new functionality and connectivity as continually changing technology dictates.


  • Hardware configuration, testing and deployment as laid out by development and design team members
    • set up and execution of O/S builds,
    • installing and testing driver capabilities,
    • resolving driver conflicts and
    • resolving O/S compatibility conflicts
    • Keeping O/S components up to date with patches and security updates
  • Hardware maintenance
    • Troubleshooting and resolving hardware problems
    • Ordering and/or returning parts for repair
    • Configuring cluster components, testing and maintenance
  • Network installation and maintenance
    • Installation of wiring and conduit according to recognized installation guidelines
    • Setup, testing and maintenance of networking equipment and associated subsystems
  • Assisting with regular maintenance procedures and housekeeping duties
  • Assisting with software conflict resolution when required

Typical Activities Include

  • Installation and configuration of client hardware including resolving client network connectivity issues
  • Installing cabling according to industry standard practices and procedures
  • Interacting with clients to address operational concerns
  • Assisting supervisor and/or other team members with preparation of reports and documentation as required
  • Providing technical support when required
  • Preparing weekly status reports for management
  • Attending meetings when required
  • Researching new hardware and software developments
  • Keeping current with new industry developments
  • Attending trade shows and user conferences as required

Position Requirements:

Minimum: 3 year college diploma in computer networking or hardware discipline and 2-3 years industry experience. Must be;

  • Comfortable working with and troubleshooting hardware down to the component level
  • Must have proven LINUX, Windows (all variations), Netware and DOS level command language experience
  • Familiar with scripting (creating and modifying)
  • Highly organized, highly motivated and focused
  • Must be capable of working independently
  • Able to work well in a team
  • Able to communicate fluently in English (written and oral)
  • Previous telco experience a definite asset.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and vehicle
